The SIH Critical Care Preceptor Program offers new RN’s the opportunity to participate in a 32-week comprehensive, competency based orientation program. By combining classroom education with hands-on clinical application, a new nurse will develop clinical expertise and critical thinking skills while building confidence working one on one with preceptors. The first ten weeks provides a diverse experience to promote nursing excellence within the system to promote the growth, development and education of the new graduate. The next 22 weeks is designed to develop nursing competence and knowledge in the critical care setting.
The LPN-RN Bridge Program is designed for SIH employees who are advancing from entry level positions to LPN status and within one year, to RN status. Candidates must be a graduate of an LPN program, enrolled in a full time or part time RN program, submit two letters of reference from school instructors, have a valid IL work permit or license, be in good standing in school and at work, and complete a transfer request and interview process. The employee will complete a three month orientation program and be required to work a minimum of 16 hours per week based on RN program enrollment. Benefits include: flexible scheduling around school schedule, exposure to different units of the hospital and a transitional bridge from an LPN role to an RN role.
The LEAP Program (Linking Education and Practice) offers part time Nursing students additional, preceptor-led clinical experience. LEAP employees are eligible for the program after completing at least one semester of the Nursing program. LEAP employees will advance their status at work as they advance their status in the Nursing Program (CNA-LPN-RN). Participants must agree to work a minimum of 16 hours per week, but not to exceed 20 hours per week. Upon completion of the first semester of school, if the student remains in good standing with the college, additional hours may be scheduled per pay period only during academic breaks. Benefits include: reimbursement of LPN/RN boards, flexible schedule, preceptor-led orientation, per diem pay scale.
