Logan Primary Care Joins Southern Illinois Medical Services Business venture brings two of the region’s strongest healthcare providers together

(CARBONDALE, IL) Logan Primary Care and Southern Illinois Medical Services (SIMS), a wholly owned subsidiary of Southern Illinois Healthcare, have joined effective November 1, 2011. The joining of these two organizations will be transparent with the goal to continue to provide excellent medical care to the residents of Williamson and Franklin Counties.

“Physicians at Logan Primary Care have a lengthy history with Southern Illinois Healthcare. We have actively worked together towards improving healthcare access and quality for patients of the area. We have done this at multiple levels of SIH. We feel that the partnership with SIH/SIMS will better enable us to continue to participate in the future of healthcare in southern Illinois,” said Logan Primary Care spokesperson Dr. Russell Brown.

Dr. Brown says the Logan Primary Care/SIMS relationship will help lead to expanded healthcare access by increasing the number of providers to ensure better patient accessibility to family practice and Logan Primary Care’s walk-in clinics. Logan Primary Care will maintain its clinic identity and become a division of SIMS.

“The new SIMS/LPC partnership will be seamless for our present patients. They should not notice any change in their current healthcare services at the Logan Primary Care Division of SIMS”, said Dr. Brown.

Logan Primary Care is home to seven physicians, 13 mid-level providers (12 Physician Assistants and one Nurse Practitioner) and 93 staff with clinics in Herrin and West Frankfort.

“It’s a privilege to care for the residents of southern Illinois and we are excited to have as part of our family Logan Primary Care, its wonderful physicians, mid-level providers and staff,” said SIMS Vice President of Physician and Ambulatory Services Phil Schaefer.

SIMS serves the health care needs of a 16-county area with a population of over 340,000. With the addition of Logan Primary Care, the SIMS organization grows to 128 providers in 18 specialties: family medicine, bariatrics, breast surgery, cardiothoracic surgery, ear/nose/throat, emergency room, general surgery, hematology/oncology, hospitalist, internal medicine/pediatrics, internal medicine/infectious disease, neurology, neurosurgery, occupational medicine, pain management, plastic and reconstructive surgery, pediatrics, pulmonology and urology. SIMS also operates the Center for Medical Arts, formerly known as the Carbondale Clinic.
